Fire burns down City Courts’ Mal Khana, destroys record
KARACHI: A huge fire that broke out in the City Courts’ Mal Khana late night was brought under control on Wednesday morning after hours of hectic efforts, ARY News reported.
SSP District East said the fire erupted late Tuesday night in the Mal Khana where ammunition, and explosive material seized from outlaws is dumped. As per initial investigation, the cause of the blaze was an electric short circuit, he added.
After being informed of the blaze, police and firefighters reached the spot immediately and started firefighting operation to douse the blaze.
As many as 14 fire tenders took part in the firefighting operation that lasted several hours, concerned officials said.
The ammunition and explosives kept in the Mal Khana were exploded with loud bangs, triggering a sense of fear among the citizens residing in the surrounding areas of the City Courts.
IG Sindh Allah Dino Khowaja also visited the spot. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that a short circuit caused the blaze, which burned down the building, collapsing a portion of its roof.
The damage caused by the fire is being assessed, he added.
Chief fire officer Tehseen Siddiqui said twelve fire tenders and two bowsers took part in the operation. He said the entire record in the building has been destroyed by the fire.
